JWF, Squeegeeing During Film Hanging

During Film Hanging

Proper squeege pattern.

We will now review the proper squeegee strokes to use once your rough-cut film pattern is applied to the glass. Using the wrong squeegee techniques can cause dirt to be flushed out from under the gaskets and, ultimately, contaminate your installation. If you learn the proper squeegeeing methods, you'll create good habits for years to come.

These instructions should be followed after your rough-cut pattern has been placed against the glass:

Start to squeegee across the top then down.
Step 3 – top center across opposite corner
Almost done
Step 6 – continue steps down the window
This is a back breaker
Squeegee extra water from the window sill
Spray film surface with mounting solution to allow squeegee to slide.
Your first squeegee stroke should begin in the center, moving towards the left or right, stopping two inches from the top of the window frame.
Your second stroke begins at the top center and goes across to the corner of your choice, stopping two inches from the frame edge.
Your third stroke starts at top center goes across the opposite corner, stopping two inches from the frame edge.
Your next stroke starts again at the center of the window and overlaps your previous stroke.
Repeat step five on the opposite side. Continue this process down the window alternating from left to right, stopping approximately two inches from the bottom of the frame.
Steps 1 through 6 should be completed 2-3 times.
More force should be applied each time you squeegee the window.
Re-mist the glass with mounting solution and squeegee across the top of the window against the frame.
Start at the top left corner and squeegee down along the frame to the bottom of the window.
Start at the top right corner and squeegee down along the frame to the bottom of the window.
Now squeegee across the bottom of the frame removing any extra water from the window sill.

Note: Hold your squeegee at a forty-five degree angle when squeegeeing against the frame.
